Introduction

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIODIVERSITY

The biodiversity or biological diversity was introduced in the mid-1980s by naturalists who were worried about the rapid destruction of natural ecosystems. The destruction has caused habitat fragmentations and loss, extinction and loss of species, and decreasing environmental services.

A well known tropical region is the center of global biodiversity hot spot. However, the region faces the increasing of biodiversity extinctions and loss due to global change as well as natural and anthropogenic disturbance. In this context, interdisciplinary and international research and collaboration over the world with focus on how to maintain the sustainability of tropical biodiversity in global change with many aspects have been done for long period. Therefore, the International Conference of Biodiversity on 4-5 November 2017 (ICB 2017) will held in one of the biodiversity hot spot in the world, Northern Sumatra as part of Sundaland that is motivated by improving the quality of research relating to tropical biodiversity in global change and how to make a bridge between tropical biodiversity scientists and their result to publics and policymakers in order to engage science in the service of human needs and improve their life quality and natural environment upon that they depend.

The purposes of this conference are (i) to bring together professors, lecturers, researchers and students as well as policymakers, practitioners, publics and civil society representatives in the scientific forum, (ii) to share and discuss the newest research result, new method and policy related to tropical biodiversity in global change in many aspects. Therefore, the ICB2017 will provides an interdisciplinary platform for scientists and participants from over the world to discuss and review common concerns and priorities, forming networks of scientists as well as civil society representatives, practitioners and policymakers from many parts of the world both developing and developed countries.
